Skin Soothing Full Spectrum CBD
Most of us have experienced some type of skin condition in our lifetime, possibly as a teen, a reaction to a food or topical product, or dry skin resulting from aging. Irritants in our environment, genetic predisposition, or immune system problems can cause skin sensitivities.
Preclinical (laboratory) studies demonstrate that several cannabinoids, including CBD, inhibit keratinocyte proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner. Keratinocytes are the predominant cell type in the epidermis and are involved in inflammatory skin disorders caused by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes. Keratinocytes are also found in the basal layer of the skin and are sometimes referred to as “basal cells.”
Other research in a model of puberty-related skin eruptions demonstrated that CBD regulates human sebaceous gland function and is a highly effective sebostatic agent, inhibiting cell proliferation, oil production, redness, and soreness.
Another preclinical study using human cell cultures revealed that CBD increases melanin production (melanogenesis), which plays a critical role in the protection of skin against ultraviolet rays and other oxidative agents.
Further research is needed, but CBD may prove to be a useful agent for protecting the skin from damage by UV rays and other stressors in our environment.
